Obama vs Romney: Is an Investigation of Las Vegas Sands Politically Motivated? You be the Judge

In a strange investigation, the Obama Administration has begun targeting billionaire, Republican supporter, Sheldon Adelson through violations his company may have committed. Las Vegas Sands Corp is controlled by billionaire Republican donor Sheldon Adelson, who has recently become the target of a federal investigation into possible violations of US money-laundering laws.

The Los Angeles US attorney’s office is reviewing the casino company’s handling of the receipt of millions of dollars from a Mexican businessman. This businessman was later indicted in the United States for drug trafficking, as well as a former California businessman, who was later convicted of taking illegal kickbacks, according to lawyers involved in the matter. Although these transactions date back to the mid-2000′s they are just coming to light now.

A Las Vegas Sands spokesman said, “The company believes it has acted properly and has not committed any wrongdoing.” The company is cooperating with federal investigators.

The timing of the investigation opens the Obama Administration's Justice Department to criticism that it is politically motivated.

Mr. Adelson, who owns casinos in Las Vegas, Macau and Singapore is a major donor to the super PAC which supports presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. It plans to spend $100 million on Republican candidates in November’s elections.

After originally backing Gingrich, Adelson has since switched his support to Romney and last month travelled to Jerusalem with the candidate when Romney met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (who Adelson also strongly supports).

As the polls continue to show an exceptionally close race, Obama and his administration are doing everything to ensure victory. You be the judge if attempting to take the biggest Republican backer in the entire country out of the game a few months before the election is a political move - or simply the Justice Department doing its job, in a timely fashion.
