February's Stock Challenge Concludes: Another Rookie Takes The Crown

February’s Stock Challenge concluded today and for the first time in a long time, it was a very close race throughout the entire month. We had 11 different lead changes in total and there were half a dozen challengers still in the race going into the final day. Pinnacle member ‘ddpritchard’, who held the top spot for the entire final week, managed to seal the deal on the last day, despite brekeen’s late surge (he gained 7% in the last three hours of trading).

February was another strong month in the markets, especially for the juniors and our challengers’ results correlated into consistent gains. We didn’t see the usual volatility in the TOP 10 like in many months past. Only 24 different members made it onto the TOP 10 Leaderboard at some point in February. The gains this past month were more gradual than usual. The TOP 10 Leaderboard results increased roughly 6% week by week.

Back to our new champion...

For the second month in a row, a relatively new Pinnacle member has captured the Pinnacle Stock Challenge Title. Last month it was darrell99 who took top spot after being a member for only 9 weeks. This month it was ddpritchard who has been with us for just 19 weeks.

The rookies have been taking some of our veterans to school of late.

ddpritchard finished February’s Stock Challenge with an average return of 51.47%. As stated, this return was the result of steady growth over the month from his two stocks selected. The winning combination from ddpritchard came thanks to two stocks listed on the big board: BioExx Specialty Proteins (BXI:TSX), the first company to commercialize a new and complete food-grade protein from a major global crop in 50 years, and Malaga Inc. (MLG:TSX), a company with a growing tungsten reserve in Peru. Both stocks performed very well in February as BXI increased roughly 40% and Malaga 65%. We always like to see a balanced attack from our champions and ddpritchard certainly had that. But we don’t want to hype him up too much. He’s still a rookie at Pinnacle despite his impressive victory!

As mentioned, brekeen, a member of the Pinnacle community for over 5 years, made a run at ddpritchard on the final day but came up just short. brekeen finished with a strong overall return of 44.12% after selecting Colombian Mines Crop (CMJ:TSXV) and Great Quest Metals (GQ:TSXV). brekeen also had a balanced attack as both stocks performed well during the month - just not good enough for a victory.

Rounding out the top 3 was another long-time Pinnacle member of 3 and a half years. Mountaineer78, a familiar name within the community and the Stock Challenge, actually managed to get hold the top spot on February 28th, but it was short lived - only lasting for an hour of trading. Mountaineer78 finished with a respectable overall return of 36.27%. This is the 5th time Mountaineer78 has posted a TOP 10 finish and 2nd time finishing in 3rd place. We like to think it’s only a matter of time before this Pinnacle veteran is added to the prestigious list of Stock Challenge Champions.

A special congratulations to ddpritchard on his Stock Challenge victory and we welcome the rookie to the Stock Stars Hall of Fame.

In addition to becoming an inductee into our Hall of Fame, ddpritchard receives 1000 reputation points to his Pinnacle Profile along with the highly coveted Stock Star. As well, ddpritchard will receive our Stock Challenge ‘Winner’s Wear’ to ensure his victory is recognized by all his friends back home. Our champions receive the winner’s only Pinnacle Package - which includes the finest of garments fit for a champion: The Stock Challenge Champ Hoodie and a Pinnacle Digest dri-fit golf shirt (for those summer days on the links). Wear them with pride ddpritchard!

Re: February's Stock Challenge Concludes: Another ...

As a part-time janitor, I am humbled to have won the February Stock Challenge when so many entrants are far more qualified and knowledgeable than I am.
The only reason a guy like me has a chance at winning is due to the collective wisdom of each member and contributer. In fact, I believe this format is designed to help guys like me succeed in our investment decisions.  I find the financial material presented in this forum is very helpful.
This Stock Challenge is what gives me a long list of stocks to put on my watch list.
Thanks to all. Here's to another great challenge!
