June's Stock Challenge Was the Closest of All-Time
June’s Stock Challenge has concluded in dramatic fashion. After May’s dismal month, marking the second worst Stock Challenge result in Pinnacle’s history, June’s Stock Challenge was the closest competition yet. We have never seen such a tight race before.
At the start of the final trading day for June, it was a six man race, all within 3% of each other. Even up until the final hour of trading it was still a six man race but even tighter than ever. All six contenders had come within 2% of each other. Finally, with 20 minutes left in the last trading day of the month, the race was down to three Pinnacle members, all within a half a percent of each other!
The three challengers who found themselves battling it out in the final 20 minutes of trading were kaner, Lloyd and minerjoe. Each one of these members claimed the top spot at some point in the month of June. Kaner spent the most time on top of any of the 182 challengers in June, for a total of six days. Minerjoe and Lloyd both held the top spot for three days each. Regardless, all that matters is who is holding the top spot when the markets close on the final day, and with ten minutes left in trading on Friday, kaner, Lloyd and minerjoe were all within 0.29% of each other. Here’s how the top 5 contenders stood at 3:50 pm eastern standard time, 10 minutes before the markets closed on Friday (notice the TOP 3):
Minerjoe in first, Lloyd, a previous Stock Challenge Champ, in second and kaner in third. Now take a look at how things ended 10 minutes later:
Minerjoe was 10 minutes away from his first ever Stock Challenge victory until Redhawk Resources (RDK:TSXV), one of his selections, experienced a late day sell-off, bumping him down to third spot. This opened the door for Lloyd, a previous Stock Challenge Champ, who finished with a 15.70% return for the month of June - good enough to secure top spot in the closest Stock Challenge yet. As Vin Diesel’s character in The Fast and the Furious said “It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning.”
Lloyd, an Edmonton native, won June’s Stock Challenge by selecting bluechip AOL Inc (AOL:NYSE) and Natcore Technology (NXT:TSXV).
Coming in second place, after edging out minerjoe by .06 of a percent, was kaner. kaner selected Abzu Gold (ABS:TSXV) and Rare Element Resources (RES:TSX) - good for a 14.69% return for the month of June.
With European leaders finally making progress on important issues facing many of Europe’s debt-ridden nations, July could be a better month than most expect for the markets; should make for an interesting Stock Challenge.
Congratulation to Pinnacle member Lloyd on his second and very well-deserved Stock Challenge victory! The last time Lloyd captured the Stock Challenge title it was November of 2007. He is now the 5th member to win the Stock Challenge twice.
