Embassy Attacks: Senseless Violence?
Call me old school, I but consider destroying one's embassy and killing one's Ambassador & staff MUCH more than "senseless violence," a characterization recently made by the president and secretary of state. To me, these are acts of War and justification for an escalation of the Global War on Terror--specifically aimed against radical Islamists...who ultimately want all freedom loving infidels erased from the Earth.
Apparently, the markets are responding positively despite the perpetual Middle East turmoil and Ben Bernanke's recent announcement regarding artificially deflated short term interest rates. America needs to find a peaceful solution to its messy relationships in the Middle East and certainly could use a reprieve from expensive (in lives and dollars) war. But peace is likely fleeting when people who despise it are involved in its acquisition.

'Senseless violence' was an understatement. It should have been addressed as murder.
Re: Embassy Attacks: Senseless Violence?
Where are the hordes of outraged "peaceful Muslims?" I continue to hear they exist, yet their silence is deafening. I am constantly reminded by our media that the ones responsible are "radical extremists” yet the videos I view on every network show women & children marching in protest and carrying banners of U.S. condemnation. Where are the voices of the so called moderate Islamist majority? They are needed NOW to rein in the actions of their own fringe. I am looking and listening but once again I do not see or hear them. I fear they simply DO NOT exist, as silence in these matters implies consent!
I am looking for major press participation by Islamic leaders, not just banners in the streets and transformed Facebook pages of sorrow toward Americans AFTER yet another tragedy. Just as al-Qaeda has many mouthpieces proclaiming their cause, since about 1993 I have been searching for a unified front on the part of Islamic peoples worldwide who not only condemn but help eradicate the scourge among them. Secondly, I seek major PRESS to help them spread a most sincere message of peaceful coexistence with all religions (if indeed that is truly what peaceful Muslim embrace), and absolute public condemnation of their own who are responsible for these acts. Stories in small papers and online venues like the Atlantic Wire and Town Talk are a start, but I would like to see a drum beat of Islamic condemnation of Jihadists by senior Islamic leaders on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, BBC, and AlJazeera.
I spent a year living among them, watching Al Jazeera--their network, and I rarely saw what I have described here. The U.S. cannot kill them all, in fact cannot even find them all. It MUST take pressure and actions from within their sect to curb and eradicate this hateful behavior. If we have learned nothing else in GWOT it is the most effective counterintelligence isn't technology based, it is human based. HUMINT starts with those within their ranks who are genuinely sympathetic to OUR cause, not theirs.
