Voyant Aviation Broadband to Showcase at World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA)
WAEA: Voyant promises biggest bandwidth yet
http://www.shephard.co.uk/Inflight/Default.aspx?Action=-1000945703&ID=3f...
September 10, 2008; Long Beach - “WE AIM to deliver 10-35Mbit/sec to every aircraft in the fleet, at a cost per bit at least ten times less than that of a satellite-based system,” Steffen Koehler, chief marketing officer of Voyant Aviation Broadband, said here yesterday.
The Mountain View, California-based company was set up a couple of years ago to exploit for air-to-ground broadband communications the open-access spectrum in the 700MHz band that the US Federal Communications Commission released last year. “We believe we can provide more bandwidth per aircraft than any other system, satellite or terrestrial, at a cost similar to those associated with terrestrial air-to-ground systems like Aircell’s Gogo,” Koehler said.
The company has begun to generate evidence to back up its claims. It says that in flight tests during July its pilot-production software-defined radio and production-standard modem supported data rates of up to 50Mbit/sec over a range of 100 miles between the aircraft and a ground station in Florida. “We’re planning to do further tests as early as this Friday,” said Koehler.
Voyant expects to see its first ground network – comprising around a hundred stations initially, growing to 300 for full continental coverage - rolled out in 2009-10. Unlike Aircell, the company sees its solution as immediately applicable to several large land masses besides North America. “Our target markets include the USA, Europe and China, with Europe possibly the most attractive,” Koehler said. “Northern Europeans in particular are spoilt for bandwidth in their homes and offices – they have high expectations.”
The final trigger for a network rollout will be a first airline agreement, according to Koehler. “We’re in deep discussions with several airlines,” he said. “Any network we put in place will be based on existing cellular infrastructure, with our ground antennas mounted on top of the towers to look upwards. Compared with the locations that the cellular operators need, this is the low-rent district. Overall, we expect our network implementation costs to be similar to Aircell’s.”
Two other US companies – Wi-SKY and DataRunway – have similar plans. The first has demonstrated air-to-ground WiMAX, the second says it will show a WiFi-based capability within the next three months. “We will operate in a completely different part of the spectrum and will offer much higher data rates,” Koehler said.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Off Topic: Our group is thrilled with what Clayman, Vukki, Lady and other have accomplished in getting "the buzz" going for Voyant!
As for me, I am going to have to take some time off from posting for a few weeks to attend to some health issues for my wife.
GLTA and have enjoyed the threads these last several weeks!

I love how the CMO is keeping all of us up to date with his blog this is great stuff! Never seen a company do this before.
Same here. I am very Impressed. It gives us a great idea of what is actually going on, and in my opinion shows alot of character as well as alot of caring for their investors.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 The Middle of a Busy Week for Voyant Aviation Broadband We're now two days into the World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA) tradeshow down here in Long Beach, Calif. Our booth has been extremely busy, to say the least. We've been juggling our calendars frantically for the past couple of days. I usually judge the level of our success at an event like this by the quaility of the meetings, and so far, I've been quite pleased. We've had meetings with many airline customers, as well as with the various industry players that are gathered together at this event.
Most of the Voyant Aviation Broadband booth is actually a meeting-room area, which you can partially see on the right-hand side of this picture. In-flight broadband connectivity is definitely the topic for the WAEA this year. And Voyant's ultra-high-bandwidth solution, with up to 35 Mbps per aircraft, has definitely been noticed by the entire industry. We're definitely causing some migraines for the satellite guys.
I think we've hit this industry at exactly the right time. There is so much buzz among the airlines right now, and this nascent market space is just getting started. In the words of one of the European airlines we met with again today: "There is so much excitement here! I love the enthusiasm you [Voyant] are generating."

Dana's Concept and spin offs.
Dana is always stressing that their core ability is to visualize opportunity created by combining different technologies to create solutions and improve the status quo.
This is the whole beauty of Dana's concept for this company. "A diversified digital media and technology holding company" he keeps saying it, but few comprehend the significance of this concept.
Dana is planning to spin off parts of the company. VAB probably would be the first. It is one of the reasons why they already have their own website. This would take place when VAB value is fully developed. Dana is already looking for other companies: those that by themselves don't worth much. He has the ability to envision that by combining their technology together he can make 1+1=100. Than, he will spin off the new division again and so on and so on.
The fact is that Dana, Mark and Scott all got 100,000 preferred shares gives them an incredible voting power. I think one of the major reasons they have done it is to prevent a hostile takeover, because once the ball start rolling, a lot of whale companies would love to swallow them."
Dana and Mark are both Wall Street savvy. I am sure even after spin-off they will maintain a significant control of the new company whether via unbreakable agreements or by keeping a majority stake in the co. (preferred shares??)
There are two reasons why they would want to do a spin-off:
1. They would need substantial funds to buy other companies and for the R&D. This will help to keep VOYT's share dilution to a minimum.
2. The spin-offs usually greatly enhance shareholders value. One of the reason that gave me a lot of confidence to invest serious $$ in this co. is - every single VOYT's manager is a major shareholder. Their interests are well aligned with ours.
Don't forget we all will get shares of the new companies!"
Re: Voyant Aviation Broadband to Showcase at World Airline Enter
What is the benefit of spin off? Why not keep it as one? Makes the company more valuable and more appealling dont ya think?
Re: Voyant Aviation Broadband
ABB is great and I think it will be the first one that Dana will spin off into a sister co. All current shareholders will get the shares of the new co and VOYT will get large funds for their research and acquisitons.
Although VOYT has much more than only one product.
This is what the new VI report is all about. http://www.visionaryinnovationsinc.com/voyant_nano_cap.html
Re: Voyant Aviation Broadband
The ABB will be the reason this stock goes back to where it belongs. North of a dollar. I'm glad to see everyone back on the right topic.
Re: Voyant Aviation Broadband
Voyant has been meeting and talking with European airlines for quite a while already. We know for sure that at the time of the SH meeting Voyant and Harris have been demonstrating the ABB prototype to executives from these airlines who have flown from Europe to Florida to see it.
