Gibson Guitar Settles Year Long Dispute Over What Some Have Deemed Vague and Selective Regulation
Last week Gibson Guitar, the world’s most famous guitar manufacturer, agreed to settle with the US Government over the case which accused it of illegally importing and using ebony wood from Madagascar. While environmental groups are happy with the settlement, Harvey Silvergate of the Wall Street Journal stated “Its looming federal prosecution for claimed violations of vague, protectionist export regulations involving imports from Madagascar and India ended abruptly after the absurdity and unfairness of the case spread virally.”
