Former House Speaker John Boehner speaks about why he now supports the legalization and decriminalization of marijuana. Right around the time of his interview, the Canadian Marijuana Index climbed to a high of 668. It was down 1.79% Thursday to 604.80.

Boehner took to Twitter on April 11th, writing,

“I’m joining the board of #AcreageHoldings because my thinking on cannabis has evolved. I’m convinced de-scheduling the drug is needed so we can do research, help our veterans, and reverse the opioid epidemic ravaging our communities”

Boehner outlines the major headwinds, most notably that federally, marijuana remains a schedule 1 narcotic. He believes de-scheduling the drug is in the best interest of the American people.

Moreover,

“The states, under the 10th amendment have the right to create laws for their own citizens. Let the people in these states decide what it is they want to do.”

Finally,

“My point is, let the federal government, ought to get the hell out of the way.”
