With the pandemic placing renewed emphasis on our physical and mental wellbeing, few industries are growing as fast as health and wellness. According to a report from Technavio, the global health and wellness market is projected to grow by roughly US$1.2 trillion at “over 6% CAGR during 2020-2024.”
“Mental Fitness” – A Rapidly Growing Market
Given society’s heightened awareness of mental health and wellness, consumers are now looking to food and drink (among other things) to not only support their nutrition and exercise regimens, but their cognitive function as well. To be clear, no food or drink can cure mental illness. However, functional foods can play a role in mental fitness.
Enter our first featured company of 2021: Rritual Superfoods Inc. (CSE: RSF), a company that hopes to help people navigate the mental, emotional, and physical challenges of our modern lifestyle through natural organic superfoods.
Rritual Superfoods Inc. (“Rritual” or the “Company”) is a startup that just completed its IPO and is anticipated to commence trading tomorrow.
Led by an accomplished management team and launched in 2020, Rritual is guided by a single purpose: to help people meet modern life demands with style and ease through functional mushrooms and adaptogens. The Company’s formulations are delivered via powder, and when mixed with warm water, are consumed as a beverage.
Their product packaging (which can be seen below) is A+; it’s elegant and eye-catching, and we believe it will command consumers’ attention. We’ve personally tried each of Rritual’s products and enjoyed their calming, full-bodied, herbal flavours.
Rritual sells nutritional products – not medicine. The Company operates in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) space and can sell its products in the United States.
Rritual’s U.S. Manufacturing Partner
Rritual’s Manufacturing Partner is a leading manufacturer of nutritional supplements, powders, and premixes operating in a FDA registered and GMP-certified facility. All dietary supplements manufactured in the facility are produced under the FFDCA code 21 CFR 111. The Manufacturing Partner is also certified for food safety by the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQF) and the facility is audited annually. Under the Development Agreement, the Manufacturing Partner has agreed to assist Rritual with preliminary formula development, initial samples, commercialization processes, and product labeling to meet FDA requirements.
The Manufacturing Partner is both a certified manufacturer of USDA Organics and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), with GMP certification a requirement for the sale of natural health products in Canada.
Selling Mushroom-Related Products in Canada
In Canada, mushroom products generally fall under two categories: (i) mushroom products that are considered food; and (ii) mushroom products that are considered Natural Health Products (NHPs). Rritual intends for its products to be defined as NHPs.
All NHPs are required to have an eight-digit Natural Product Number (NPN) which is a licence issued by Health Canada that must appear on each product’s label before they can be sold in Canada. The Company applied for NPNs for each of its initial three Rritual formulations in December 2020. Authorizations are required for Rritual to make health claims and while there is no guarantee that the Company will obtain these authorizations, it expects to have them in the near-term. The Company’s products cannot be sold in Canada without an NPN.
*Read Rritual’s prospectus, which was filed on February 26, 2021 on SEDAR.com under the Company’s issuer profile, to learn more about its Manufacturing Partner as well as regulatory requirements relating to its proposed product offering.
We got up close and personal with the product and Rritual’s CEO, David Kerbel, in late November of 2020. To watch our exclusive video on one of the world’s newest publicly traded functional mushroom-focused companies, click the image below.
Functional Mushroom Market Forecast to Hit Over Half a Trillion by 2028
“The functional mushroom market is expected to gain market growth in the forecast period of 2021 to 2028. Data Bridge Market Research analyses that the market is growing with the CAGR of 7.22% in the forecast period of 2021 to 2028 and is expected to reach USD 555.94 billion by 2028. The increasing use of the ingredient in the healthcare sector is escalating the growth of functional mushroom market.”
With this in mind, it’s no surprise functional mushrooms were ranked as a Top Food Trend by Whole Foods for 2021.
Rritual’s Three Initial Product Lines | Chaga, Lion’s Mane, Reishi
Rritual is focused on three main products initially: immune booster (chaga), brain booster (lion’s mane), and stress support (reishi).
In today’s environment, there is heightened awareness around managing and strengthening one’s overall mental fitness and immune system. We will let the Company describe its products in its own words below:
Product #1 – Chaga Immune
“Bursting with bioactive polysaccharides, Rritual’s chaga blend combines the chaga mushroom with the Eleuthero root for optimal immune system benefits.”
Product #2 – Lion’s Mane Focus
“This unique blend of lion’s mane mushroom and rhodiola root supports cognitive function and brain health, while also improving your body’s ability to manage stress.”
Product #3 – Reishi Relax
“Rich in triterpenes, polysaccharides, fatty acids and amino acids, Rritual’s reishi blend includes the Ashwagandha root to help body and mind combat anxiety. Long term use can also improve quality of sleep for restless minds.”
Rritual also sells a variety pack and larger containers.
Although we are biased (Rritual is a client of ours and we participated in its initial public offering), we believe Rritual is in a strong position to capitalize on the growing consumer demand for functional mushrooms.
Rritual’s depth of experience in consumer packaged goods and its CEO’s connections with some of America’s largest retailers (established through past business dealings) is one of the main reasons we chose to invest in and market the company.
David Kerbel, CEO and Director
Let’s begin with the Company’s CEO and Director, David Kerbel. David Kerbel has over 30 years of experience in retail, brokerage, and consumer packaged goods. Through his roughly 3 decades in business, David has established strong relationships with Walmart, Kroger, Costco, CVS, Walgreens, and Celsius Holdings.
David worked with Celsius Holdings from an early stage, serving as the company’s senior vice president of sales from 2008 to 2011. During his tenure, Celsius grew its retail sales from $400,000 to a multimillion-dollar figure, developed nationwide representation with CROSSMARK, Inc., and established distribution with industry giants such as 7-Eleven, Ralph’s, Costco, BJ’s Wholesale, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Rite Aid, Target, Duane Reade, and Stop and Shop. In total, Celsius’ new distribution stemming from Mr. Kerbel’s direct efforts led to $36 million in incremental sales in 2010.
“We’ll be in 1,200 stores and 4,000 points of distribution by the end of Q1 .”
– David Kerbel, CEO of Rritual Superfoods Inc.
Warren Spence, COO
Warren Spence is Rritual’s COO and Director. He has over 25 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, which includes senior roles with Red Bull and Olivieri. Warren specializes in supply chain and operations systems and was appointed Head of Supply Chain for Nude Beverages in 2019.
Rritual Selected as Runner-Up for the Buyer’s Choice Award in October 2020
A Company press release from last fall detailed Rritual’s selection as runner up for the Buyers Choice Award at the October 2020 virtual ECRM program:
“Rritual, a premium brand in the emerging functional mushroom market, announced today that its Reishi adaptogen elixir placed second within the Whole Body & Mind Wellness category at the annual ERCM Buyer’s Choice Awards.”
David Kerbel, CEO of Rritual, had this to say about the selection:
“Rritual’s performance at the ERCM Buyer’s Choice Awards was not only a vote of confidence for the long-term potential of our product line but also a clear indication that there is strong demand for high-quality and accessible mushroom products among mainstream consumers and retailers alike…”

Rritual Superfoods provides an opportunity to invest in an emerging product line — one that was formulated, developed, and branded by a leadership team with vast experience in the CPG space. What’s more, Rritual’s products are expected to hit retail shelves in short order. Not to diminish the importance of e-commerce, but for us, being able to walk into a store and see, feel, and buy a company’s product carries weight.
Furthermore, we believe Rritual’s market positioning is strong; both the wellness market and the functional mushrooms segment within it are forecast to grow substantially over the coming years.
We hope this report provides a high-level overview of Rritual Superfoods’ recent developments and its near-term plans, but it is not intended to be exhaustive. Recognize that we are biased when it comes to Rritual. The Company is a sponsor and client of Pinnacle Digest, and we own shares and warrants of Rritual, making us cheerleaders and shareholders. Conduct your own thorough and independent due diligence to properly understand the risks associated with investing in a speculative company of this nature. A good place to start your due diligence is reviewing the Company’s Sedar filings at www.sedar.com, beginning with its prospectus, which was filed on February 26, 2021.
With $6 million recently raised through its IPO and its flagship collection of certified organic Mushroom and Adaptogen Elixir Mix powders market-ready in the U.S., Rritual Superfoods (RSF: CSE) appears primed to carve out its spot in the plant-based consumer wellness market.

Do Your Own Due Diligence: An investment in securities of Rritual should only be made by persons who can afford a significant or total loss of their investment. Rritual’s stock price could be volatile, and its shares may be thinly traded. The value of the Company’s securities may experience significant fluctuations due to many factors, some of which could include operating performance, performance relative to estimates, disposition or acquisition by a large shareholder, a lawsuit against Rritual, the loss or acquisition of a significant customer, industry-wide factors, and general market trends. There can be no assurance that an active trading market for Rritual’s common shares will be established and sustained.
In all cases, interested parties should conduct their own investigation and analysis of Rritual, its assets and the information provided in this report. Readers should refer to Rritual’s public disclosure documents found on the SEDAR website (www.sedar.com) before considering investing in the Company. The public disclosure documents will help investors understand Rritual’s objectives and the risks associated with the Company.
The securities of Rritual are highly speculative due in part to the nature of the Company’s plans/objectives, its early stage of business development and limited operating history, the highly competitive industry it operates in, and Rritual’s negative operating cash flow. Rritual is therefore subject to many of the risks common to early-stage enterprises, including under-capitalization, cash shortages, limitations with respect to personnel, financial, and other resources and lack of revenues. The Company has limited financial resources, and no assurances that sufficient funding, including adequate financing, will be available to advance its objectives. If the Company’s generative commercialization and development programs are successful, additional funds will be required for development of one or more initiatives. The Company may seek such additional financing through debt or equity offerings. Any equity offering will result in dilution to the ownership interests of the Company’s shareholders and may result in dilution to the value of such interests. Failure to obtain additional financing could result in the delay or indefinite postponement of further business development.
There can be no certainty that Rritual will be able to implement successfully the objectives and strategies described in this report. A prospective investor should consider carefully the risk factors set out in this disclosure statement, the Company’s prospectus dated February 26, 2021, and outlined in Rritual’s annual and quarterly Management’s Discussion and Analysis, and in other filings made by Rritual with Canadian securities regulatory authorities available at www.sedar.com under the Company’s issuer profile.
